Spokane police were called to investigate a high-speed vehicle roll over crash in Spokane. Witnesses say the car was traveling close to or exceeding 100 mph prior to the crash. The car went over a hill, bottomed out at least twice before rolling over and landing on its roof leaving a trail of parts and debris. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle himself and admit himself to a nearby hospital. Police say he was later located and charged with driving under the influence. Driving under the influence impacts car accidents at a substantial rate in the United States. Every 51 minutes, a fatal car accident occurs involving an impaired driver according to data from NHTSA.
How Driving Under the Influence Impacts Car Accidents
Tremendous efforts have been made to cut the number of car accident from drunk drivers. However, in 2015 nearly 1.1 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics according to data from the FBI.
How Alcohol Physically Effects the Body While Driving
Alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream rather quickly and stays there much longer than most think. No matter how much alcohol has been consumed, alcohol impacts vision, coordination, reaction time, comprehension, concentration, and the ability to track other vehicles. Often times people may think they can drink a strong cup of coffee or take a cold shower and shake the buzz off to be able to drive after drinking alcohol. However, this is not true. Alcohol takes time to exit the body. The likelihood of getting pulled over or getting in a car accident when under the influence is very high.
