Tips for Attempting to Cross a Highway
Many car accidents occur on Washington and Idaho highways. Vehicles travel at high speeds on these rural highways. Though rural roads carry less traffic, they account for over half of America’s fatal car accidents. In 2015, 53 percent of fatal crashes occurred on a rural road. Major factors that contribute to these statistics are humor error, the environment of the roadway, and the amount of time for an ambulance to arrive. Here are some tips to stay safe while attempting to cross a busy highway.
- Stop behind the stop sign before attempting to see any oncoming traffic. Often times drivers will think no one is around and immediately roll into the intersection.
- Watch and listen for any oncoming traffic. Even if it is just a few seconds, it could save your life.
- When it is safe to proceed, continue to look both ways for any speeding vehicles that could potentials put you in harm.
